rock_web.jpgThis Week's Question

Can God terminate His
own existence? I've
asked many people, and
the only (unsatisfying) answer I got was:
"Why would He want to?"

30925.gifTips When Giving a Book

Depending on the book, you might also want to see if they like it and then offer to:

(i) Read it together with them. (This works best for books that have short chapters (Rabbi Pliskins's books, What the Angel Taught You, Triumph, Israel, or the Stone Chumash). e.g. 15 minutes a week over the phone.

Or . . .

(ii) Touch base with them to discuss it because you are reading it as well!

However,

(iii) Be careful not to come across as pushy or with an agenda. If you are concerned about that, just give the book and then see if they like it.

(iv) Minimally ask them if they read it. If not, tell them you are looking forward to hearing what they think of it!

(v) Then ask them what they thought about it, what they liked etc, which can lead to meaningful conversations

(vi) If they liked the book, follow up with the next one!

bank_web.jpgSo I was at the bank today and the guy behind the teller was being a bit annoying, telling me all the offers and specials that the bank had to offer and convinced me that I had to speak to a banker. I wasn't in such a massive rush so I was fine. The banker I spoke to had some small Hebrew signs on his desk and so I asked him if he was Jewish. He said he was heading in that direction (or something like that). As the conversation went on he said he was thinking of converting, he introduced me to another banker that was Jewish (frum I think), and told me that he goes to kiddush on Friday nights sometimes . . . When I asked him how his famiy is responding to this, all he said was "Baruch Hashem". Well I stopped there being that he wasn't really Jewish and there went my kiruv oppurtunity, but I was very happy that I was able to start a conversation with him. I'm working on learning to "talk to strangers" . . . also, this past Wednesday (it feels like last week, but I guess it's part of this week for kiruv purposes) I got a ride home with one of the girls in my class in college. She's Jewish, but not yet religous and so we had a nice conversation about Israel and Jewish stuff. I hope to continue developing this relationship . . .
