Shabbos is Nothing to "Space Out" About
Rabbis debate when space Sabbath occurs.
by Jonathan Petre, London Sunday Telegraph
May 27, 2002
London - As if weightlessness, cramped conditions and the
enormity of the galaxy were not worrying enough, a crew
member of the next space shuttle mission is facing an
additional problem: How do you observe the Sabbath while
in orbit?
Col. Ilan Ramon, who will become the first Israeli to leave
Earth's atmosphere as part of the NASA crew on the shuttle
Columbia in July, has caused consternation among rabbis by

Only in Jerusalem
Despite my mother's warning, I spoke to a stranger and had one of the most powerful experiences of my life.
by Jesse Friedland

I was on high alert, after having been approached by what I suspected was a terrorist in the central bus station, who turned out to be an overly friendly local looking for a new "friend." This encounter aside, I felt immersed in the culture and met some extremely interesting and entertaining people throughout my journey. However, none were as thought provoking as the family I was soon to meet, Rabbi Yossi and Hindle Swerdluv. (full article)

Henny's Secret
There is no limit to how much love and compassion can emanate from one human heart.
by Sara Yoheved Rigler
Henny Machlis's kitchen is an apt metaphor for her heart. A glimpse into the kitchen, less than half the size of a normal American kitchen, leaves one wondering how 200 Shabbat meals a week can issue from such a room. Similarly, one wonders how so much love and compassion for literally thousands of individuals can issue from one human heart. (full article)

Project Inspire Chanukah Kit
This year, a simple invitation can enhance the Chanukah experience for many of our Jewish brethren.
People are usually very touched when you care enough to invite them into your home. Jews often want to connect to their heritage and are excited to take you up on a Chanukah invitation. You create positive feelings just with the invitation alone even if they can’t attend!
Make sure to forward this great initiative to three friends; we all have a family member, neighbor, friend, co-worker, or someone that we've crossed paths with who would love such an invitation.
To make it even easier for you, we will send you a free informational kit that includes explanations and tips on how to make your Chanukah party more enjoyable for you and your guests.
To join the program and receive your kit, contact Project Inspire at 646-961-4961 or yweinberg@projectinspire.com. You can also register and download the kit at www.kiruv.com.
Forward this great Chanukah invitation idea to 3 friends.
