An old man, a stranger, and the bonds of kindness.
by Seena Elbaum

As I left the supermarket I was drawn to the elderly man, frail and hunched, struggling to stand, and raising his voice with rage and sadness. Had he not been wearing a skullcap, I may not have ventured over to him. My aching sense of care and pity, smack dab in the center of my gut, was all the encouragement I needed to approach him. triumph_web.jpgwhat_angel_taught.jpgsmall_miracles.jpgTips When Giving a Book

Depending on the book, you might also want to see if they like it and then offer to:

(i) Read it together with them. (This works best for books that have short chapters (Rabbi Pliskins's books, What the Angel Taught You, Triumph, Israel, or the Stone Chumash). e.g. 15 minutes a week over the phone.

Or . . .

(ii) Touch base with them to discuss it because you are reading it as well!

However,

(iii) Be careful not to come across as pushy or with an agenda. If you are concerned about that, just give the book and then see if they like it.

(iv) Minimally ask them if they read it. If not, tell them you are looking forward to hearing what they think of it!

(v) Then ask them what they thought about it, what they liked etc, which can lead to meaningful conversations

(vi) If they liked the book, follow up with the next one!

Does God really exist and did He really speak to the Jewish People at Mount Sinai? This 4-part series opens with a discussion of how people are either influenced to believe certain things or are given the space and intellectual respect to come to their own conclusions. Hear 7 classical categories of evidence of both His existence and His speaking directly to the Jewish Nation on Mount Sinai.
