With Hashem's help; Motzei Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Vayishlach; Kislev 18, 5753 (December 12, 1992)

We all know that the spiritual situation in the Holy Land is terrible. Many Jews hold distorted views, and many of them are misleading others. Our uninformed Jewish brothers (tinokos she'nishbu) are deteriorating further and further. At such a time, it would clearly be completely unthinkable for us to remain idle and watch holiness be profaned. We are obligated to save them, for all of the Jewish people are responsible for one another.

We have seen it with our own eyes. Devoted kollel students were inspired to join this effort... They engaged many of our misguided brothers. And, with Hashem's help, they accomplished great things.

In light of this, we are sincerely petitioning kollel students to join this effort in order that we may wage Hashem's battle with our mightiest warriors. They should volunteer themselves to rescue Jewish souls from the abyss. This should be done in collaboration with the kollel leadership, in an organized fashion, and in a way that encourages students to promptly return to their studies. The Rambam writes (Hilchos Talmud Torah) that when a person is obligated to disrupt his Torah study in order to perform a mitzvah that would otherwise be neglected, he must immediately return to his studies.

May Hashem help them, and may they be successful in their efforts. May we soon merit the anticipated time when "all your children will be students of Hashem, and your children will have peace" (Isaiah 54:13).

Yosef Shalom Elyashiv

I also join together and endorse everything written above regarding the great obligation to participate in and strengthen this pursuit, as delineated by the gaon, R' Yosef Shalom Elyahiv Shlit"a.
